As contrast to my colorful oil paintings I thought I share one of my watercolor paintings too.
This is a quick watercolor painting I did today after having seen that idea in a tutorial of Peter Sheeler. It only uses 2 colors (ultramarine blue and burnt sienna) and a little bit of ink to define the lighthouse. The whole base painting is done wet in wet. The lighthouse itself is just removed pigment with a clean damp brush. A technique used quite often in watercolors.
Those who know me since some time know that I love watercolors. Unfortunately I didn't have a lot of time recently to practice with them. I concentrated my spare time on oils.
What I like on watercolors is that they are very soft, hard to control sometimes and they always have a kind of a misty, semi abstract touch.
This is watercolors and a little ink on W & N 100% cotton paper, rough surface 7 x 10 in (18 x 26 cm)
Hey Tom at always Great work . Ich selbst habe keine Erfahrung mit Aquarellfarben , sieht aber sehr gut aus 👍🏼one question Tom . Bill used often other Colours . Mauve, orange , Rosé do you used these or a Alternative ?mauve Looks like violett , orange like Cadmium light red , Rose like magenta ?
I've always loved your watercolor paintings Tom and this is another winner 👍
Thank you Brian!
Thanks Dirk. Actually I learned to paint with watercolors first.
I have a tube of Mauve, because I like this color (brand Lukas 1862), alternatively you can also pre mix alizarin crimson and phtalo blue. This also makes a nice violet.
I also have a tube of permanent orange (same brand). But I often premix red and yellow which is also very nice. Cadmium red pale is quite orange as well, but very strong. I have a tube of permanent rose as well (Winsor & Newton)
Thanks a lot Nivek!
Thanks a lot Tom 👍🏼That helps me much 😎
You are welcome Dirk
I appreciate that Tom 👊🏼
Feel free to ask me something whenever you want Dirk. If I can help I will😀
Thanks Tom , I just have more fun with Bill's pictures and color harmonies, at the moment. and do it in small scales , you know In this respect, one or the other question could arise. Thank you very much for your support. I try to take the level up a little step with each picture..👍🏼tomorrow is „ boesner“ Time , to by the Colours
Sounds great Dirk, I currently do 1 Bill and 1 Bob per week. To learn from both. Und für zur Abwechslung;)
I still have red sleep Mountain on my note (you've already painted)👀and then Bob's Indian Summer and maybe Winter Woods 😎sometimes I just have time and then I can't come to nothing for three weeks. Job, sports, woman 😂
Haha same here, I have two small kids as well. But job allows me to work from home so I can paint in the late afternoon sometimes:)
Sometimes i can paint at work , when i find time between ( or we need a nee Deko 😎)and my second Hobby is to built high end Custom Kitchen knives. That takes Time to . Handles with Pine Cones in epoxyd .etc. Name,Samples or pictures etched in the blade and polished mirror on request.Sharp like razor blades . My day must have 34 Hours .
Wow great, so much interests. Well I am always happy to find some time to paint. Recently it takes me rarely more than 2 hours to finish one. So this is possible twice a week 😀
Thats fast . Sometimes i need 3 Hours when its more complex (small Scale) ,or its something new that i have never done before ..The main thing is that the result is correct, so i think Time is relative..
As Bob would say: Speed comes with practice. I am painting oils in the garage, there it has 0 degrees currently, so I need to hurry a bit ;)
Normally I take my time and do not work to finish it at a specific time. :)
0 degrees is hard, respect, your fingers freeze..At the moment we have around 8-10 degrees. Has become warmer. It's also a relaxing thing for me. Insofar as it takes longer also good. Tonight Super Bowl, already bought paint today. Still free today, running
