After recovery I am finally back on my easel today with a new Bill Alexander recreation. For my comeback I picked this one from the book ‚The magic of Oil painting IV‘.
I wanted to create something powerful with some crazy colors. This picture has been painted on a canvas which has been primed with liquid white and then given a coat of Indian Yellow. Something I never saw before 😀.
I like how Bill plays with color harmony. Actually he rarely uses more then 8 colors, here only 5 and white. With these limited palettes you get harmonic scenes in my opinion. Although I used a few cadmium red at the bushes on the left foreground. I felt it needed some addition there to make it more interesting. What do others think?
Overall a pretty straight forward episode where you can concentrate on forming interesting mountain shapes.
This is oil on canvas panel 16 x 24 in (40 x 60 cm)
Good feeling to be back to painting and to FIRE IN after 10 days without. 😀
Thank you Terry. Definitely something worth a try with the yellow.
Love the sky, mountains and trees, the rest is too bright for me Tom (🙂) but. It's brilliant anyway!
Mahlzeit Tom😁wie nicht anders gewohnt von dir. Spitzenklasse ! Fantastic work real Great colourful sky and Mighty Mountains . Bill wäre stolz auf dich 👍🏼
Woooooow I think it's stunning I have been watching a couple of his and Paulsons oceans on the internet. I love the way they talk about light and the colors there pictures are so... different from Bob's his colors get wild sometimes. Lolol
Gorgeous!
Thanks Nivek. I thought this is too bright for your taste, lol. I also prefer more darker scenes but want to create a wide variety ;)
Danke Dirk. >Endlich wieder Malerei, 10 Tage kein Bild ist hart für mich. Thanks Dirk. I am glad to FIRE IN again. :)
Many thanks Sherina. I find Bill teaches other stuff than Bob and I want to motivate people to paint his tutorials too. :)
I have see some tutorials by Paulson. He also has quite nice scenes but I am not sure about his material. He is using quite a lot of other stuff. This prevented me yet from trying one of his paitnings.
Thank you Sandy for your support as always :)
WOW!!! That's just an incredible powerful painting! So vibrant and just gorgeous. Perfect way to comeback from a recovery! I don't really see any other colors to add. It would take away from the the strong effect of it.
Beautiful with the golden mountain range against the red/crimson sky! I have also watched a few from Buck Paulson on Alexander art, but have not found one that "speaks to me" to paint it yet lol. A lot of his that I have seen are darker seascapes.
Thanks Nancy, I just added a few red sparkles at the left side, one can hardly see it. I am glad you like it.
Thanks Pam. Yeah I think Paulsons style is very different. Yet I also did not find an episode which I must paint. Maybe if I spend more time on the Alexander Art YouTube channel.
