"Towering Clouds"
March 17, 2025
Oil on canvas
40x60cm
Based on a photograph I took a couple of years ago, on my way home from work.
It's painted on a natural coloured canvas, wet-on-wet.
And for the first time in years I used Ultramarine Blue again.
I've always had it in my acrylic palette, but not yet in my oil palette.
Boy, did I miss it!
It is such a great colour, especially for deep blue skies like this. ❤️
The other images show the progress.
Wauw amazing! Ultr.blue van van Gogh? I used it recently, but it faded away on a black canvas.
Beautiful sky!Me luvs this painting,Cheers P

Thank you! ❤️
When I repainted one of my sunset paintings I had fun doing it. So when I came across this one again I decided to give it a go and again I enjoyed it.
So chances are I'll do more cloudscapes.

Thank you Jos. ❤️
Yes, Van Gogh Ultramarijn.
Like many blue colours it is transparant, so perhaps that has something to do with it fading away on a black canvas? No idea. Might also be the amount of pigment. Van Gogh is not as high in pigment as Royal Talens Rembrandt is.
Anyway, thank you for the heads up.
I often use a black canvas so it is good to know it fades.
