"Ebony Jeweller"
March 17, 2023
Oil on canvas
25x30cm
A change of scenery from me.
A black damselfly I came across in NY state, USA, in the summer of 2014.
I believe it is an ebony jeweller, hence the name of the painting.
Wet-on-wet, using a rather dark greyish green gesso as a base.
Beautifully done and nice details.
Lovely, we get loads of blue ones on our ponds in summer, I spend ages watching them flit about. Love the detail and the shadow is excellent 👍
Great job! The reflections and shadows add a lot of dynamic to this.
Thank you all! <3
It was fun making this. The body ended up being to fat, still is a bit I think, but I didn't have the guts to go around it with the leaf colours. Was afraid to end up mixing mud, mixing the dark colour of the body into the leaf to much.
I have 2 more of these small canvasses.
Might make 2 more damselflies/dragonflies so I'll have a set.
We come in all shapes and sizes, I'm sure those little damsel flies do too! 🤣
I like your thinking Nivek. :D
This is really super Titia!
So realistic, wonderful!
the damselfly is perfect! I love the iridescent blue and green on the body!
