Original Creation

Inspired by LJM. Kitchen things.

Sunnylady 16 May 2020

LJM thank you for your great idea and for inspiration to draw little home things.

I found things with character. They belonged to my grandma. I miss her a lot. She was an amazing woman!

Wow, the texture you did on the rolling pin looks amazing! It looks like real wood! The shading looks really good on the objects. Very nice 👍🏼

Thank you ESCM! I think metal is most difficult texture I certainly challenged myself today. It turned out that circles are a tough thing to draw and they can be easily messed up. If it is that difficult for me, I need to train more. I just watched great video about one point perspective and circles, will try to build few of them to see how the shape changes from the placement in space.

Wow. This is really great . Can kitchen things be beautiful? The answer is yes. Its a creation of heART. The wood rolling pin has texture and i can see cracks and scratches from being used. the detail shading on the tenderiser points are fabulous. And i definitely can tell its a metal handle resting on the roller... Just amazing. How did the new pencil 6B handle?

Very good work! Each item is distinct and easy-to-read. Also a good use of the value range. I am really enjoying your pencil work!

Wonderful work!
I agree with dracula.

@LJM: thank you very much for your great idea and for showing how little home things can be source of love and joy. I followed your advice about lighting, I have day light, but it was not enough as it was after 4 PM when I started. So, I readjusted position few times on the table and how far I need to sit to fit things on the paper. I should have sat closer a bit though. Then I looked at it to study. Then I started sketching. Sketching was done with 2B not to scratch the paper. I also used that soft eraser as it is super gentle on the paper. Then I shaded everything lightly except obvious light areas with 6B and pretty much used it to the end. I love 6B and this pencil gives me softness of graphite but at the same time when I need it can do defined sharp lines. I usually start at seeing darkest spots to understand where the the blackest color needed. This locks my value chart. White is color of the paper. Now I have both ends of the chart.
When I think I am done and here is cheat for beginners( I use it quite often) to learn how far from original and where else more work is needed: I took picture in black and white mode from my viewing point.
This is very helpful to teach brain to look back at the object and see more shadows and highlights. From this point I revisit my darkest areas and see they are not dark. After this entire drawing gets darker. This is totally normal. Why? Because we start with white blank paper and each line looks very black against it. So we reserve ourselves from making it very dark. Overall I am very happy with my 6B!

@ Dracula. Thank you a lot! I decided that I need to go back to pencil to start seeing values better for my oil paintings. I came to understanding that value is more important than color to create something good. At the end one can paint purple apple but without value it will be just weird purple circle. It seems you are moving in the same direction with your studies of tonalism ?

Jin, thank you very much! I am happy you like it. Do you plan any charcoal or pencil drawings soon? Is quarantine getting to the end?

Thank you Tom!
Try pencil it will be interesting adventure. I am sure if you start you will progress quickly, you draw your cabins so well!

Today I learnt that circles with 2 point perspective are challenge. But I also learnt how view changes with moving from below horizon line to above horizon line.

Dear Sunnylady. First, I am glad that I was able to inspire you. I work from the heart all the time...whether is is painting. sketching playing an instrument/song ..(don't all artists?) Colouring , subjects, mediums. .. What is it that makes us pick what we are doing. ? I think that we all start an idea from the heart. Im happy i was able to inspire you. Secondly.. You are an awsome artist... I hope that one day I can be as good as your work. I am far from that point but I will keep at it at my slow pace... And watch your work and everyone else's and also be inspired by you and them. ☺

Thank you LJM. You are very creative and very kind! I am also at the beginning of my path and learn as I go. Thank you for your encouragement! This such a great community here I am very glad to be part of it!
