Original Creation

Fuji mountain

Sunnylady 23 May 2020

Based on photo from internet. No idea who the author is. I changed composition to fit my taste.
Finally I decided to go for a silhouette. May be not quite in proportion, but I think that is ok.

BEAUTIFUL Sunnylady! Mountain is impressive but the sunny clouds from the right give it a lot of splendor!
The silhouette is very okay, not too small and not too little, it creates quite some depth!
Happy to see you have canvasses again!!!

Thanks a lot Voy. I am so happy too to paint on canvas again!
Do you think a person need to be smaller?

Voy Kay Conqueror of Challenges

No, certainly not smaller. That silhouette size shows the viewer is about 100 feet away, maybe a little more, and that is good since that distant grassland and the mist do indicate that the giant mount Fuji really is far away. So the proportions are close to perfect here, never worries there.
And I admire your steady hand for the silhouette, I have far more troubles with that due to ….. hand troubles since a few years.

I did first one half size and he was too small. I erased him. It was most frightening moment in entire painting to erase dark spot from the lighter surroundings. But white in oils is way stronger than black. So it worked. It was such a relief.

Voy Kay Conqueror of Challenges

Glad you did that, it would have been a microsized silhouette. Now you can spot what it is, what the person is doing and yet it is tiny enough not to draw ALL the attention to it.
10 points from the Belgian jury on that!! :)

To do him I put my palm on the canvas as I had to hold liner brush very close to the bristles to gain that control. I did not go in to make a stick darker, I would mess it up.

Your silhouettes are perfect Voy and you work very hard on them to fight your hand. I always admire them. It is most difficult thing for me.

Voy Kay Conqueror of Challenges

And here I thought I was the one who had difficulties! My hand, eye, foot, jaw …. were paralyzed almost five years ago. It took Hercules'like efforts to revalidate yet my hand, and he jaw, still give some hamperings. I can easily drive a car or spit in a garden but writing and painting are less easy for me. And I lost my heavy American accent with it as well!

If you think my silhouettes are great, then perhaps my body/mind has found a solution to minimize the handicap. I must admit that painting does do wonderful and positive things to the mind!!
All little things help!!

Thanks to Jury for high mark! It means a lot.

It is a big challenge you overcome Voy! Painting certainly helps to rewire the brain.

Great work Sunnylady! In Japan, reddish Mt. Fuji is called Akafuji and is very popular as a symbol of congratulations. However, most of them usually don't draw people on Akafuji. However, I am very happy to see your mountain picture and this composition is very good.
I think you don't need to have a person small.

@Jin: Is Akafuji not meant to be for people even when it is for congratulations? Sorry I did not understand. I will google.

Do you mean person need to be bigger?

Hm... not much info about Akafuji. Can you tell me more?

Jin7
Dear Suunylady The most famous Aka-fuji is made by Hokusai Katsusika.
He was a artist lived in the year 1760~1849 . Aka-fuji itself is a symbol of congratulations and generally nobody draw a person in their Akafuji works. Most of the time only the clouds are drawn together with Aka-fuji, and otherwise, only the trees. The Japanese people don't decorate the picture so much, but I think that if you give it to the Japanese as a separate gift, they usually pleasing.

Thank you Jin! It is great to learn something new today!

Thanks for your comment Tom, I decided to get out of my comfort zone and paint something unusual. Fog was a real challenge level 100. I don't think i addressed it well. And then bonus level that silhouette. I really encourage you to go for it. I managed somehow you will manage better as you have great control over your paints.
Tip: I drew draft with pencil on the paper, one small one and one big one to understand things better.

This is awesome Sunnylady!! The silhouette is great too. I love it.

Thank you LJM!

Beautiful painting! I just love the little boat and reflection.

@ForestVueGallery- thanks a lot! I am happy you love this little person. I imagine he came to enjoy being alone and watch the beautiful mountain!

No doubt a great place to be!
