This painting is homework from online class I decided to take to improve my skills on the landscape. This is made of 3 colors: burnt sienna, TW, ivory black and odorless paint thinner. Objective is to learn how value works.
I ran out of white canvas and had to improvise that added difficulties to the painting. I used watercolor paper I bought in 2008 and primed it twice with black gesso, only one I have. I am sure black canvas even when fully covered by color still adds the darkness to the painting. What are your thoughts about it?
Also paint slides/smudges on such smooth surface and makes next layers application quite difficult. I am thinking to repeat after I hear feedback from the teacher to fix my mistakes. But different color and only 2: some other black and white.
Jin7 thank you. I appreciate your words, I was wondering if I achieved the depth here.
This is wonderful. I really appreciate this type of realistic landscape. The distance to that faraway hill is just great! I bet your teacher will be impressed. Do you recommend the course you are taking? Nice work!
Thank you Dracula. This is made on inspiration of really nice work as clouds there just amazing! This course is 6 lessons with 5 paintings as the outcome. I am at lesson 2 now. I already got feedback and it is 70 points out of 100 and that the field is way too dark and the river is too dark. I fixed everything and indeed it looks better now. Problem with that course it is in Russian. I can check with the teachers if they can translate or plan to do the class in English.
Wow, really only 3 colors in this one?!
Which online class did you take there?
Felix, hi. Yes, it is only 3 colors. Isn't it interesting what visual illusion we see when grey color is combined with brown and looks like blue tint.

There is very big discount for few days more.
Those clouds and that sky are amazing. The depth in the sky alone is very impressive.
Kelsith, thanks a lot! Sky was a challenge and I am pleased to hear it has the depth from everybody as this was the objective, I got too close to the painting and could only see the problems and could not see it has depth.
Gorgeous, powerful painting!!
Thanks a lot dear Bob_ross_watercolors! I appreciate your kind words!
