Michael James Smith lesson #3 for me on 12" x 16" panel. Next up will be his "Winter Retreat" on 24" x 24" linen covered panel - in the block-in stage now. This type of painting isn't for everyone; it's a time consuming process which I enjoy and I have been happy with the results. I don't get a lot of time to paint but when I can, it gives me a chance to make some progress then come back to it whenever I get a chance and pick-up where I left off. Doing this type of painting seems to agree with me. I am also a woodworker and there are many similarities: Working with your hands, time consuming process, mental relaxation, and the satisfaction with the finished product. Hope you enjoy!

I don’t know what to say other than this looks like an amazing photograph, your method definitely works for you, Roy! Top level work! πŸ‘βœŒοΈ

So realistic! I can see why it took you so much time!

This is fabulous, you are very talented.

So much detail, marvelous!

Super impressive. Great work.

I love how high def this looks. super crisp detail, and very photo-realistic. I tend to paint in sporadic bursts as well, so I know what you mean, although I don't claim to achieve the same results haha! Really beautiful work.

Dang!!! This is incredible! I know you have spent a great amount of time doing this masterpiece. Amazing work! I am a fan!

Thank you Brian for the wonderful comments! Glad you like it.

Thanks Sandy for the feedback! I keep telling myself I need to log the actual time spent on a painting, but...

The landscape painter - Thank you for your comments! Much appreciated.

Marit - thank you for the positive response to my painting!

Thank you Yucel! Appreciate you taking the time to comment.

Jeff - thanks for your kind feedback. For myself, I sometimes just feel like painting, and other times I force myself to get started and either it goes well or it just doesn't flow (I think most of you know what I mean).

Thank you Nancy! As am I a fan of your work! You're willingness to jump in and be challenged reflects in your growth as an artist and your results. Your recent Wolf and Iris paintings are amazing!

lovely image!

Very pretty. <3

All the shaodws and highlights making is look really sunny, the reflection on the water, seeing the underwater rocks as well. Loving it. <3

Doing something this detailed on 24"x24"must take forever...

Dirk, Jim, Pietro - Thanks for the comments! Glad you enjoyed my painting ;)

Titia - thank you for the kind words. My previous painting was on 36" x 36". Now that was just nuts, but I think the results are the reward. :)

So beautiful Roy! I have watched some MJS videos and he does offer some amazing painting advice/methods. This is stunningly photo realistic. I can't stop admiring those big rocks!

Thank you Pam! Funny, rocks were my nemesis. They looked like turtles, or hay bales, or man made. For me, the MJS process of blocking in and then detailing, along with embracing randomness (totally avoiding any patterns) really helped.

Absolutely fantastic Roy, so well painted, congrats, cheers

Thanks for your comments Dave! Means a lot, my fellow MJS student :)

Roy - was there a full length tutorial for this one? I can only find a time lapse. I think I am going to paint this one soon.

Yes. You have to join his program to get the full lesson. This one is about 7 hours worth.
