Original Creation

Idaho Sunset

Stick_People 17 Feb 2023

Attempted to combine two Kevin Hill paintings (Smoky Mountain Sunset & Sunlight Through the Meadow) to portray a sunset over Lake Cascade in Idaho. One of our favorite place to play. Oil on 18"x24" canvas. Added Kevin's painting as a reference.

Really beautiful! Love all your details!

Very nice

Beautiful, there are many ways to paint grass, may i ask how you did the grass in the foreground?

Looks really good. Well done!

Thanks all for the comments. The picture uploaded awful - maybe the file was too big.
Terry, the foreground is mainly thinned paint on the detail brush. Kevin does this in a lot of this paintings. If you want to see the technique it's on Youtube.

You did great job combing two compositions! Lovely glow from sunset on the mountains. I like your version has more warmth.
From compositional point of view I would suggest to remove that pink/red bush and convert it to the dark color so it does not jump out. Why? Because that bush takes attention away from that beautiful sunset and eye jumps between two and it breaks that calm mood you created.

LOL Sunnylady, I have thought the same thing. Thanks for the creative feedback! Always appreciated.

Looks great Roy, well painted, cheers
