Leaning toward Photo Realism lately and I wanted to try a Michael James Smith lesson. Talk about pushing your comfort zone. He's a good teacher and pleasant to listen to (like someone else we know). It's a much bigger time investment then W on W technique, but I'm ok with that. Fortunately, I don't have to make a living at this, so there's no time pressure, just enjoying the process.
This is on a 12x16 panel. "How to Paint Mountains" is MJS's title for this lesson. I just kept the title the same for a laugh.
Hope you enjoy.
Holy Molly Roy!!! This is just incredible! Super work! If I may ask, how many hours/days did this take you to do?
Superior and so beautiful!
A Gallery quality outstanding piece! Wonderful job on this. I have watched MJS and learned some tips for sure. Really looks like a photo, so mission accomplished!
Super ππΌπ©πͺ
really captivating, it grabs your attention right away! Beautiful setting/subjects and well executed :D
is the LOL a reference to the technique? I don't know what it stands for unless you mean laugh out loud :D
Amazing amount of detail. <3
Must have taken a lot of time.
MJS is a good teacher when it comes to this technique.
Excellent
Excellent
Thanks Tony! Much appreciated.
Thank you so much Nancy. I am able to paint a few hours on the weekend for the most part. I started it last month but I have not kept track of hours. As a reference, the lesson had over 8 hours of video.
Thank you Brian for the kind words.
So sweet Pam. Thank you!
Thanks for the comment Dirk!!
Thank you Jeff for the comments. Yes, LOL is laugh out loud for my little joke keeping the title the same as MJS.
Thanks for the comments Titia and Coldethel. Appreciate your feedback.
Yes sir, that is definitely how to paint mountains!
Roy, you have painted an excellent rendition of MJS's 'How to paint a mountain'. Congratulations on a job really well done. Keep going. Did you join the MJS Students FB group? Cheers
Thank you Dave for the comments and encouragement. This is my first MJS painting / lesson. I just started his Paradise Sands lesson so we'll see how it goes.
I have not joined the FB group...still considering it. I have not been on FB for years.
Roy, you are painting great with his techniques, keep going. The MJS FB group is open to both current and past students, and like the members of the 2"B community, you will get great painting tips from there.
I hadn't used FB for years until I started painting 2-3 yrs ago, and I just use it to post my paintings to wow the family and non-painting friends. You'l just need to post your MJS paintings on so MJS Students can determine that you are / have been a student. Cheers
