I thought the knife would be my enemy, but i really struggle with the fan brush. Some tips how to load color the right way and how to make some nice background trees with it?
As someone who has never made friends with the fan brush, I understand your frustration. I tried everything...spoke nicely to the brush, made sure it was cleaned after every painting, set it up with a nice spot to relax and stretch out its bristles...but the thing has never been nice to me. 🙂
Seriously, though, after fighting with the fan brush for a couple years, the best thing I ever did was ditch it for filbert brushes of different sizes. They have basically the same rounded design, and you don't have to load it up with a tube of paint just to make a tree. You do have to load the brush more often, but you get used to it. Just thought I'd share what worked for me.
Nice mountain, too. It shows good depth with lots of variation in the slopes. Best wishes and just keep painting. No fear.
Great painting, well done, cheers
I should probably tell you that I paint on a 12x16-inch canvas. Not sure how filbert brushes would work on those 18x24s. Might take a week to make a tree with a filbert brush. 😁
Your line of background evergreens look fine, just a bit too far apart. Fill in the space between nthe trees and you will like the results. You did a fine job with this painting. It is not an easy one.
