Original Creation

Redwood Grove - Bill Alexander (UNFINISHED)

Ninoum 20 Mar 2023

Thanks to Tom for sending me the book tutorial! 🤗 This is my very 1st painting done without a video tutorial. I had a great challenge with this one.

I was going thru the step-by-step instructions pretty nicely when I had to catch a break. Coming back to my painting, I got excited to get to do the big redwood trees in the foreground… and totally forgot to put my sun rays. 😳. I realized that when I was almost finished with it. So here is my strategy… I’ll wait until the painting is dry, I’ll cover my big tree with contact paper or painter’s tape, and do my sun rays then. I’ll finish putting branches on that big tree once my rays are on there. If anyone has a better idea, please share.

It looks fabulous! Love the sunlight on the Redwoods!

Thank you very much Sandy! ☀️

Hey Beauty, this is also a Beauty . Super 😎👍🏼

Awwww! My friend! Making me blush and thank you! 🤗

If you let it fully dry then you can use linseed oil as solvent yellow+TW or zinc white over the tree.

Then just take a soft cloth and wipe tree clean you may need to dip that cloth into linseed oil to help you cleaning the rays from the tree.

This is what roughly glazing is. Only for glazing one will use transparent colors.

You thought process is good as well. You may want to remove carry over anyways with linseed oil and soft cloth in case tape will not stick very well to the texture of the tree.

I love the color saturation in this one! So rich and vibrant. It does not look unfinished to be honest, but I can't wait to see what your finished version looks like!

P.S. - I still have not started a painting from the books you sent me, but I hope to do as well as you have!

Another absolute stunner Nancy 😍 Can't say I've ever followed a tutorial or a book, I just look and paint, may have to try that method if I can find a book in the shops 🤷‍♂️

Thank you SOOOOOOO much Sunnylady! I will def use your technique. it seems easier. Now I am looking forward to doing my rays! ☀️

Awww! Thank you so much Jeffth! I will repost the new version when it's all set and done.

There is no time frame or limit to paint from those books my friend. I know you'll rock those paintings. 😎

Thank you so much Niv! 😊 I wish I could say that I can paint from an inspiration coming from my head only but I follow vids or now, books only.

I have all of Bob's books. When ever you want to paint an episode, let me know which one and I will send you the book picture and tutorial via email. 😀

Wow, thank you Nancy, so kind 🙏 I'll find a couple I'd like to try and let you know. ☺️

Wow - looks awesome Nancy.

Please do Niv! I’d love to share! 😀

Thank you so much Tony!!

You did very good. Maybe try to make the bushes more irregular, i.e. not that regular shape.

I really tried Tom. 😞 I don’t know how many times I had to scrap them off and redo them over and over. I haven’t mastered that technique yet it looks like. So I went with what you see on my canvas.
