Here is my very 1st attempt of painting a dog following the Bob Ross Wildlife technique. It took me almost 2 weeks to paint it. It was a real delight to do. Pretty stoked how it turned out.
I have included the actual picture that this compo came from.
Freaking awesome!👏 Right down to the fabrics on the couch and pillows. The doggo is incredible N!
Oh my Nancy!!! I KNEW you would quickly be fantastic with animals, and your practice paid off big time! This is stunningly real🤩 2 weeks is a pretty fast turn around also. I am also curious as to your technique for getting the image onto the canvas . I use a "light box" technique to copy/draw the initial image, and yours looks so accurate that I am guessing the same?? If not, I would LOVE to know a new secret!!
This is awesome! <3
I see it is done with oils and acrylics. Are the acrylics used for the "drawing" of the dog, before going over it with the oils?
just wow!
wow, this is mind boggling. My brain can't even comprehend how to approach some of those effects. Phenomenal work.
Amazing!!! 🤩 so realistic!! The dog is amazing but I can’t get over how amazing the couch looks!!
Unbelievable, Nancy. So realistic. Greatly painted👍🏼🇩🇪
Oh my goodness, very very impressive!
So very amazing! So realistic it is stunning!
Pro quality Nancy!! What a wonderful piece. Your training, talent, and perseverance are on full display here. Thanks for sharing!
A M A Z I N G! NANCY!
Nice job Nancy!
I don’t even know what to say. This is just so incredible. I love ❤️ it. I am amazed. It is incredible. It is the best that I have seen.
Thank you so much Drac! 🥰 So here is how I did it to be compliant with the wildlife BR technique. I print out the picture to the desired size (18"x24"), transferred the main lines of Bailey and the couch & pillows with graphite paper onto the canvas, and started phase 1... the acrylic phase (black, white and gray). It's the most tedious part of the compo. Once done, you can start the party and apply your colors with oils. Let me know if you have any other questions. I will be glad to answer them. 😃
B!!!! Thank you so so so much! 😊 I am really happy you like this compo. I poured my heart and soul into it.
Thank you super much Pam!!! 🤗 I appreciate the faith you had/have in me. It really means a lot.
I printed the picture 1st, then used graphite paper for the transfer. But you draw only the main lines. Nothing too fancy. Let me know if you have any other questions. 😃
Thank you bunches Titia! ☀️ So for the WBR technique, we use black & white acrylic (not gesso but real acrylic paint) and gray gesso (paint the entire canvas with it to create our mid-tone). After the transfer of the animal on the canvas, we actually paint the whole scene with the acrylic (I just added the picture of phase 1-acrylic phase) to this post. Then when everything is done, you add the oils (colors).
Thank you very much Jessie! 🫶🏼
Thank you so very much Jeff. If you were to put your mind into this technique, you would do amazing too.

The details are well painted and wonderful!
You are as popular as ever.
Thanks for posting the details of your process! I have also used that particular tracing method, BUT I never thought about doing an entire under painting in the acrylic/gesso (even though I do it for landscapes - DUH!) I am totally going to do that on my next animal portrait!!!!
WOW Nancy, you have painted an absolutely fantastic, detailed and realistic painting. It is soooo well done. It speaks powers for your capabilities, Congrats on such an outstanding painting. Cheers

Wow! This is really well done. You really captured the likeness and body language of the doggy. How large is this painting? If you can, would you be able to provide more details about how you prepared for this? Did you use a grid or some other technique to block in the composition? Excellent work!
