Original Creation

Peaking Sunrise

Ninoum 12 Mar 2023

Based out of a picture of a friend of mine (see attachment). I used Bob’s technique of “Golden Rays of Sunlight”.

I am pretty happy with it. The rays look so much better in person. There’s more transparency than on the picture. My blue color sky is showing more in real too. What took me the most time is the patio rails. Still not 100% straight but I can live with it.

Good morning, Nancy I had to look twice 👀It looks super realistic. Fantastic👍🏼

Good morning my friend! Thank you so much! I did tons of gesso prep. Specially with the trees. When are you painting next?

Beauty, I don't think you saw the last one. I painted one by Paul Ranson. There will be something new next week 😎👊🏼

Awesome branches Nancy! Very realistic!

Wow !.....Nuff said

Thank you B! I love doing scrip liner brush work! So branches were my fav part! 🌳

Thank you so much Terry!!! ☺️

Very good, Ninoum.
Must have taken quite some time to make all those trees.
Good idea to use the "Golden Rays of Sumlight" technique.

Thank you Titia! 😊 I think it was the most efficient way to do it. I used a black canvas and most of the work is done with gesso. I really enjoyed that technique! Thanks Bob! 😀

Looks like a photo. Awesome!

Thanks Coldethel! 😀

Wow so realistic! Just gorgeous

Thank you so much Sandy!!! ☺️

Had to look again and those branches had to take forever! Great job N!

The blotchy paint technique you used to represent the thousands of tiny branches is very effective! I'll have to keep that in mind.

B… My branches took me about 30-40 mins. I painted on a black canvas, took a piece of paper towel, dipped it in the white gesso my (I followed the procedure of Bob’s “Golden Rays of Sunlight”) and applied it on the canvas. That created a busyness in the background. It saved me a lot of time. It probably cut in half my branch production. 😀

Very much so Nick! Best way to do lots of branches!

This is incredibly clever and well done. I think you really nailed it based on your reference photo. It's giving me a few ideas myself. That's what I love most about Bob Ross paintings and this painting style in general - you can gather technical ideas from Bob's lessons and apply them in this way. This works very well with the gesso. Paintings with gesso underneath have always been my favorite things to paint. There is no end to how creative one can get using this medium!

Thank you so much Lightsnow! Bob says it all the time… “Dont copy what we ‘re doing. We are teaching you a technique so we can turn you loose in the world!” That is so accurate!

You are so right, there is no end with creativity using this medium! Limitless!

Man thats a sweet dawn u created.Another triumph!

This is wonderful, Nancy! I love everything about it but the sunlight and details in the branches are particularly good. I must look at that gesso episode as I know little about its application.

Thank you very much Barbara! You will def learn lots watching that episode. The realism you can get from that technique is fabulous.
