Not my fav painting… I didn’t want to post it because I was disappointed of the outcome, but decided to upload it anyways. It was a challenging one to say the least. I reworked and re reworked it. I want to change the spruces on each side of the painting. I tried already but not happy about them. The grassy areas are too rectangular. I didn’t put them at the right angle.
I do like a few things though… my creek and my rocks. The background is ok. I learned how to make bushes/small trees with the fan brush.
I will give it a break and rework the side spruces when I get the hang of the technique. I will post the updated version then.
Thank you so much for sharing all of this with me. It means a lot. I will def create a new one. And will post it then.
Stunning stream and rocks. Reminds me of a deep woods creek in northern Minnesota.
I will second both Tony and HL! I like the bushiness? of your spruces.
The water, stones and the yellow grass/trees are great! Let it rest for a while, maybe you like it better if you view it later with less technical eyes.
Thank you for all the very encouraging words HLarson3, Cronenberg85 and Joha59! It's so true Joha59, taking some time away from it will help to view it with less technical eyes.
This is VERY pretty! I felt the same about mine when I painted this scene. I think I had high expectations and it has a LOT going on. I agree 100% with Tony on a redo one day. Overall it is such an appealing composition to me. Would be worth painting again.
Really pretty version!
Thank you for sharing your experiences flippergirlpaints & Tom! I am glad to know I am not the only getting disappointed about the outcome of some of the paintings.
I will do a redo on that one at some point for sure!
I really appreciate all the honest feedback. 🤗 Thank you Tom for your input. Always looking forward your point of view!
Thank you paintingblondie! ☺️

Please don't ever be too disappointed to post your work. Even though you may not feel it is your best, many others will really like it and I am sure others will get some inspiration by viewing your work. There are several things I like about this painting: The overall layout is nice. I really like the way you have the water cascading over the rocks. Your shading on the rocks is also quite pleasing to look at. What I do in a case like this, where I am not entirely happy with the outcome, I would paint this again in a new painting. Use all the information you learned creating this painting to create an even better version.
I would not re-work the trees any more in this one. Chalk this one up to experience and create an even better version. I know you can do it and I look forward to seeing it. You are on the right track ... keep going :)
Happy Painting.
