These past two weeks, I went through my old paintings and touched up every one I felt I could improve. Here's one from very early into my painting career, which I touched up the foliage on. (compare it to the before photo which I've attached)
Super mountain
Very nice ππΌπ
much greater dimension and depth on the tree now. great work!
Nice work. I especially like the mountain and the foliage.
Mountains are gorgeous! Nice distance you created by adding less details in the very distant one and reducing value contrast there.
Super mountains!
Not exactly, Terry. I didn't forget the shadow layer, I was trying to make a tree with sparse leaves, and I had seen Bob do that by omitting the shadow layer, but that was done against a dark background so that the highlights stood out. Definitely a learning experience because these mountain were some of my best and they had that ugly tree in front of them for about 7 years.
Just beautiful Nick!
Nice updates, and again - those mountains are terrific!
The lighting on the mountains is just stunning! For an early work, you certainly had a solid handle on how to do mountains. Beautiful painting!
Thanks Brian. Mountains were the one thing that came naturally to me. But these were still a league above my skill level of the time. I think this painting was my twentieth or twenty-second? Honestly it's hard to believe the improvement in this one compared to what I was painting 10 paintings prior.
Intimidating main mountain! I love it!

Like chalk and cheese as the saying goes. Guess you forgot to lay down the dark background on the tree in your first version yeah?
