Vuk Karadžić (1787 - 1864) was a XIX century Serbian philologist, linguist, and reformer who significantly influenced the Serbian language. He is renowned for his efforts in standardizing Serbian grammar and orthography.
He was also collecting and preserving Serbian folk literature. His work laid the foundation for modern Serbian language and culture.
