Napoleon Bonaparte (1769 - 1821) was a French military general and political leader who rose to prominence during the French Revolution and its subsequent wars. Born on August 15, 1769, in Corsica, he became Emperor of the French in 1804.
His strategic brilliance and ambitious reforms reshaped Europe, leading to the Napoleonic Wars, which ultimately expanded his empire across much of the continent. However, his rule faced setbacks, and after a series of defeats, he was exiled to Elba in 1814, briefly returned to power in 1815, and was finally defeated at Waterloo. He spent his final years in exile on the island of Saint Helena, where he died on May 5, 1821.
