Georgy Zhukov (1896 - 1974) was a Soviet military commander and one of the most prominent figures of World War II. In the humble beginnings, he became known for his strategic brilliance, leadership in key battles such as the defense of Moscow and the Battle of Stalingrad, and his pivotal role in the Soviet counteroffensive that turned the tide against Nazi Germany on the Eastern Front.
After the war, Zhukov continued to hold influential positions in the Soviet military and government, though his relationship with Stalin and subsequent leaders was complex. He remains revered as a national hero in Russia for his crucial contributions to the Allied victory in World War II.
