Fidel Castro (1926 - 2016) was a Cuban revolutionary leader and politician who served as the Prime Minister of Cuba from 1959 to 1976 and then as President until 2008. He was also a key figure in the Cuban Revolution.
He established a one-party socialist state, implemented widespread social and economic reforms, and was a prominent figure in Cold War politics, often challenging U.S. influence in Latin America. His leadership was marked by both significant achievements in healthcare and education and substantial criticism for human rights abuses and lack of political freedoms.
