The face came out a little lopsided which I tried to fix. In the end I just put ice cream splatter on one side to hide it 😊 I think I need to pay closer attention during the sketching stage to prevent that from happening again. What tool do you guys use to sketch - pencil, paint pens, paint on a liner brush, something else?

I use to sketch on paper first. Then I draw a grid. Same grid I draw on canvas with thinned Alizarin or Burnt sienna and transfer the image using grid on the canvas with the same thinned paint.
You can use a pencil for some scenes but it will undermix with paint and add dirt.
Another option to use watercolor pencils in the general tone of your future painting. Like here I would use one of the blues or reds.
