Sleepy Duck

Lilikins 01 Sep 2022

My husband has named him Sir Quacks-a-Lot. Saw a photo of this goofy duck using his chest as a pillow and thought he’d be fun to paint. The thing I ended up struggling with most were the ripples in the pond. Still not completely satisfied with it but good enough!

I love everything about this adorable duck!! Terrific feather work and wonderful color choices! I love his expression. What is the "reddish-purple" color you used on the body?

Thank you FGP! The lower portion of the body is phathlo blue with alizarin crimson and a smattering of magenta. The upper portion is mostly alizarin crimson and magenta with some naphthol red for highlights.

Wow! Adorable subject, love the detail.

Super adorable with great expression and detail work! Love it!

wow nice work, that didn't look easy

Thanks everyone! DBerkey - except for the darn water the rest of the duck wasn’t difficult, just required patience and layering. Animals are my favorite subjects to paint :)
