Painted for my dear friend who lost his beloved chicken last week. Chicken (yup that was her name) had a rough start - my friends father in law originally had her and several over chickens until a fox or a coyote broke into the hen house, leaving her as the lone survivor. Then an electrical fire caused the chicken coop to burn to the ground. She was presumed dead when a week later she came out of the forest missing an eye. My friend took her in, built her a glorious retirement home, and she lived out the rest of her days being pampered. She followed him around everywhere when he was outside and he loved her like she was his child.
I can’t help but feel like I’m missing something. I can’t tell if something’s actually off or I’ve just stared at it for too long this weekend. It usually takes me a month of agonizing before I’m satisfied so painting it in 2 days is throwing me off. I was hoping to paint it by the time he gets home from vacation so if anyone has any suggestions please let me know!
You nailed it Lilikins! Great work and your friend should love it!
This is a great story of survival and heart warming too. Love the detail on the beak and neck. I think it will be well received. Great work!
Awesome chicken!
Thanks everyone! My friends wife knows I’m painting this as a surprise for him and reminded me that chicken was more red so looks like I’ve got to tinker with the painting some more. I’ll post an update with the final painting!
Her feathers capture the shimmer in her eye.
fantastic .. the eye is amazing
