I painted this from a photo of the social justice protests stemming from the murder of George Floyd. I used a black canvas and made an undercoat of pthalo blue, alizarin crimson, cad yellow, and painted the tear gas as if I were making clouds, with a fan brush in white, then softly blended. After it was dry , I coated the surface with liquid clear and added the figures. The glow at the bottom was a candle shrine behind an orange traffic cone.
