This started out as a Ross painting. It's on a white canvas with liquid clear. I had a whole day with nothing else that needed my attention, so I was really taking my time with the sky. I didn't like it at first until I started adding clouds. Then I really got in to painting the clouds.
There was water in the foreground. For a little while I was considering making a beach scene out of it, but I started on the mountains Bob was painting. They started becoming much more western than his, so I leaned into it. Then I really got in to the highlights and shadows. I decided this would be the painting that gets the road I've been wanting to do. So I continued working on my western mountains.
I ended up spending most of the day in my studio. I was starting to get tired and hadn't started on the road yet. So I took a little break, came back brushed a simple landscape in and went to work on the road.
This is an incredible painting! I love how the sunset light falls across the desert rocks. It creates such a peaceful, calming, and relaxing feeling.
Really nice that you allowed yourself to flow with the feeling and enjoyed the process.
