This is an acrylic painting done from a photograph. Enjoyed painting this one. Still used Bob's technique on the cactus highlights. These are liquitex acrylics on a 16 X 20 canvas.
Great blending in the sky for acrylics! Love these cacti!
Thank you Voy Kay and Sunnylady! Yes, Sunnylady, the acrylics are much harder to get a blended look. I also feel like acrylic paintings always look better in person than they do in photographs. Oils stay more true in the photos! I'm still fairly new to acrylics (started in oils) and I know there is a lot to learn with shading to make them look more realistic.
I heard the cowboy music in my head when I saw this. I love those colours, and fab giving it a go with acrylic, quick drying and no liquid white/clear can make these tough, but I think you did a great job here. Its extremely atmospheric, and has a lot of details too!
Thank you Mrs. C!! Yes acrylics are more challenging for sure! I'm more comfortable with Bob's wet on wet oils! I paint oils outdoors and right now it's too cold! Having fun experimenting with acrylics!!
This is beautiful! Blending is much easier with oils I find but like you I am also doing acrylics until I can open my windows!

Very impressive mountain range, specially that dark colouring!
