Tree in the Meadow (Kevin Hill)

Jeffth 06 Dec 2022

This is my attempt at following a Kevin Hill yt video, which has a lot of steps missing. The video was done in acrylics, but I used oils. This canvasboard was way smaller than his 18x24 stretched canvas, I can't remember the size of mine exactly but something like 9x12? Adapting it to a smaller space was a challenge. I can't decide if I prefer doing the more detailed work of Kevin's or the less detailed work of Bob Ross, but I'm happy with how this turned out.

This is gorgeous Jeffth! 😍 Very peaceful! Love everything about it specially the color palette. Great job!

Thank you Nancy!

Nailed it! The challenge of filling in the missing steps makes these more rewarding.

Very realistic looking Jeff. Great job!

Thank you midnite and tony! I agree with what midnite said about filling in the missing steps, I do feel a sense of accomplishment. However I am very tempted to purchase one of his instructional videos to get a full step-by-step. Im still deciding what my ultimate goal is with painting, I feel torn between realism and Ross style work.

Very detailed. Nice job. Looks great. Really like those blades of grass in the foreground, something Kevin does quite often if I'm not mistaken.

Fantastic painting, love everything about it πŸ‘πŸ‘

Thank you Alex and nivek!

So stunning!

Awesome volume in the tree! Great work on light and shadows!

Beautiful. Great depth and very realistic colours.

Thank you Alexandria, Sunny, and Uma!

Jeffth, I felt the same with direction of my art I was torn between realism and Impressionistic approach and Bob Ross , only by trying these different things you can choose what is yours. So go ahead and get one of Kevin’s videos and try it and see where all the efforts will take you and most importantly where you feel you want to go.

Here is the lesson I bought from Kevin and I do not regret about this purchase at all. It was awesome learning from the video.

Wow sunny, what a beautiful piece. Thank you for the insight and encouragement, I think you are right. I should try as many styles as I can/am curious about. I ultimately want to design my own paintings from photos, so I'm searching for anything that will aid in that goal. Thank you!

If you want a photo realism, talk to Dave J, he can recommend you classes from MJS.

Jeff, you have done a great job with this painting. It is easy to see the difference in the way you handle the 2 styles of painting. I think you are ready to look at a change in style. This may be worth following, at least for a while, as a way of gaining more experience. Cheers

DaveJ! Thank you for looking into my work! I just realized I missed a comment from Sunny that recommended I talk to you. Total coincidence that I ended up asking you for advice the other day, ha. If you have any suggestions on where I should start with MJS tutes please let me know, thanks!

Jeff, no worries. Have a look at my comments to TitiaD below the comments I made to you on my Winter's Light painting. Cheers

Beautiful work Jeff :) I love the light and dark mix throughout. Kevin is a bit difficult to follow for me so I always admire the work people do with it. Well done.

Thank you Happy! Still one of my best to this day :D
