Original Creation

Simple sunset and water (Chuck Black)

Jeffth 03 Jun 2024

I don't really do seascapes so I thought this would be good practice. Truthfully I just really wanted to paint the sky. His tutorial was great, I highly recommend it. Things I learned: the Windsor Newton paints I use are way too lean for his method and I had to use a lot of linseed to match his consistency. I'm becoming more curious about the Michael Harding brand oils he uses, as well as walnut oil. It was fun branching out.

Beautiful

Wow! Spectacular!!

Such a beautiful sky! Purple in the water is exactly shade I see it during sunset time. I wish I lived by the sea to try to catch it on the canvas. Great painting Jeffth!
I read that walnut oil does not give such a good film like linseed and stability of painting could be compromised. Read about it.

Another alternative is resin (of course I forgot how it is called, but nowadays each brand will have resin for oil painting). It dries much faster than linseed and it allows nice flowing paint.

Super cool πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ

Beautiful seascape Jeff, you should do them more , as I look at the result of this one!

great ocean!

Wow !! This is stunning!!

Incredible Jeff! Super work. Looks like a real photo!

Thanks for the nice comments everyone!

Sunny, about the walnut oil he advises only a little bit. I think the main difference is in the brand of paints he's using (Michael Harding) which are looser than the Windsor Newton I'm using. I am curious about it bc it may allow me to work wet in wet over a couple days since I am a slow painter.

Perfect...the sky is gorgeous and water is so well done!

The movement in the water is truly something to behold. So we'll done.

Thank you Sandy and Tawny!

Sooooo beautiful 😍

outstanding work...well done J

Thank you Pam and Terry! I highly recommend trying the youtube video with him as I did. It was pretty easy, moreso after blending oil into my firmer paints.

Thanks Jeffth for explaining. I did not think that walnut is slower drying oil.
Please let me know how it goes when you get your hands to try it. I am very interested.

Beautiful work with the colors. I’ve learned so much from Chuck Black. Quality paint is the key so I’ve replaced all my paint with MH and Blue Ridge Oils. What a difference that alone has made. Like you, colors that are a bit stiff I mix in that tiny amount of walnut oil until the paint peaks with the knife.
