Hats off to Indicationofart for posting the lovely florals. Needing a serious break from time consuming landscapes it struck me to try and paint a flower as I’d never tried. I saw Gary Jenkins mentioned in comments and discovered four seasons of his videos available free on Amazon Prime. I found this much easier than a landscape and was wowed using so much vibrant color.
Gary said you need to paint 100 roses to get it right. One down, 99 to go! This is season 4, Golden Glow.
Painted on a 12 x 16 stretched canvas, I under-painted the background with Liquitex Heavy Body acrylics, spraying a water mist on the canvas before and during the painting to keep it flowing. I applied a very thin covering of linseed oil to the acrylic before proceeding with the oils. Oils are MH, Blue Ridge, Gamblin.
Beautiful!
Very pretty!
beautiful job.
You did a FABULOUS job with this! Enjoy your time with Gary!
So very pretty and love the background!
Thank you for your comments. I learned a lot from this one. Never knew that the combination of sap green and alizarin crimson is a beautiful shade for vines, etc.
Indicationofart, I definitely enjoy Gary’s commentary! Thanks to you I found his videos and something entirely different to try. For some reason I was never interested in painting flowers. Likely because it looked impossible!😂. When my flower gardens bloom I this spring I will have plenty to study and attempt with Gary’s help.
I’ve been researching brushes as I think the right chiseled brushes would be helpful. He mentioned a sable liner and that the others he uses are synthetic so I’ll be exploring that.
I found website - but I do not know if it is trully them - https://www.jenkinsartstudio.com/new-page-1
