Another Chuck Black tutorial painted on a 12 x 16 linen hard board panel. I found this painting to be a bit dark after it dried for several weeks so I added additional highlights. MH and Blue Ridge oils.
Thanks Pam, the sky was my favorite part to paint.
Very pretty!
Very nice
I've been curious about the MH brand paints. How would you say they feel compared to Winsor Newton? Would you say they're worth the investment for a range of styles like Kevin Hill or Bob Ross, or are they more specifically helpful for doing Chuck Black's style? Nice work on this tutorial.
Thanks Jeff, I haven't used Windsor Newton so can't compare. Compared with Gamblin artists grade I like MH much better. The pigment load in MH is considerable and creamier and you end up using less paint in my opinion. For the stiffer colors I blend in a tiny bit of walnut oil. I also highly recommend Blue Ridge Oil Colors located in Asheville, NC. I don't find much of a difference from MH and they work well together. Blue Ridge is less pricey on many colors but doesn't have as wide a range of colors sold by MH. BR has great service, orders shipped generally same/next day and It's only sold by the manufacturer. https://blueridgeoilpaint.com/ If you order enough you get free shipping. If you're piling on the paint with the two inch brush BR style it might get a bit expensive. I think Kevin Hill style would work wonderfully. Let me know your thoughts if you try them.
thanks for the answer! It may be a while before I venture in to the MH brand, but this certainly tips me off sitting on the fence about it!
Thank you so much Brian and Cold!
