I don't look like that at all 😂
Everything is about 80% right, making it look like everything is off. Especially the eyes are too high and destroy every bit of likeness
Dittos to Tel’s comment from me Felix. Respect ✌️
It is okay for a first portrait in oil. Now I just need to analyze where I can improve and put in the work 💪
Felix, good job sir! I tried my first portrait a couple months ago of my son. I made 5 attempts in an effort to not give up. The last one is hanging on the wall here at home but I didn't want to post it here because it really didn't meet the standards I set. Portrait painting is HARD.
Very good first attempt!
Top👍🏼🇩🇪
I couldn’t imagine doing a portrait. I don’t know about the likeness but the painting is great
That's a really solid 1st portrait! I know that there are a lot of techniques out there for portrait painting like the Loomis method for example. But I do not use anything quite like that when I paint my pet portraits. Painting for me is not about the drawing so I don't want to put a ton of effort into drawing something and then painting it. When I do my Pet Portraits I will take either tracing paper or something like a light box and then I will draw the eyes and nose and some structure of the face onto the canvas so that I don't have to worry about getting the proportions wrong. This saves me time and let me concentrate on the painting. Hope this helps
I started drawing portraits with a construction method like Loomis, but switched to a more observational technique like you are using a few weeks ago. It is working mich better that way.
I think the biggest problem here was my lack of experience with oils.
Getting the proportions right is good advice, I think I'll get a proportional divider for this next week
I picked up a prop-divider, and yes it helps...to a point. But Felix I think your correct to use a more observational technique. Of course we beginners must be brave to go that route, especially with little to no drawing experience. As far as using oils, my understanding is that they are advantageous because they dry slower and can be manipulated easier. If an eye is even slightly off (for example) the subject will become anywhere from a distant cousin to unrecognizable. 🙂 In any case portraits are a great challenge and everyone should try it at least once.
Oh wow! Amazing Felix! I haven't tried a portrait yet since they intimidate me a lot. You did such an amazing job.
Nice one.

Hard to comment as we never met, i have full respect for anybody who can paint accurate portraits and i DON'T include myself in that.
