Tucker as a baby. I was holding him up talking to him when someone snapped the picture and I decided it would make a cute painting.
Hi LandscapePainter. My very first painting at age 12 was of my poodle, Gigi. After painting quite a few dogs here are some pointers. First of all, it's okay to trace the dog from a photo. I run copies on my printer then use a graphite tracing paper. My drawing abilities are pretty poor so that's why I don't attempt to free hand draw my dog subject. Next, it's not necessary to show every little hair or whisker. You can add a few here and there where it will add character. And remember that eyes are wet and reflect whatever pup is looking at.

He's a beautiful boy, your dog paintings are fabulous. I'd love to be able to paint our dogs oil on canvas, where do I start to learn?
