This is my recreation of a Franklin Carmichael Painting (look at the picture in the corner). I painted this back in January for a school project on Canadian Painters. I know that this is a Canadian Landscape but I am not too sure where it is..... But I love the colours in this painting! It took a long time to blend out the water but I am very happy with how it turned out. I really like the mountains, I used so many different shades of colour to do it, and I am thrilled about how it looks. This took 2 days to complete.
Felix, thank you so much. It took quite a while to blend all of the colours I added to the water, and I had to wet the back of the canvas so the acrylic paint wouldn’t dry very fast.
Wonderful painting! There is so much rhythm in this painting. Color transitions are great!
I see dinosaur and a big fish hidden there, very nice twist, I think you version takes me to Jurassic time.
That´s incredible how you converted watercolor to Acrylic painting but kept the spirit of watercolor!
Sunnylady, thank you so much! I tried really hard to make the transitions in colour blend nicely together, and it took me a while to do that. Ha ha, I’m glad you noticed those! They came out of my brush with me knowing, and I had to look at this painting a few times to notice what I did.
I enjoy making my own creations of paintings noticeable a bit different to my own liking to make it feel like it’s really my own. Adding little things to paintings really makes it fun to notice them
I surprised myself on how well my recreation turned out since I didn’t use watercolours! I didn’t think I could get the same texture and blend of colours in the painting with acrylics. But with a lot of little editing while the paint was still wet really helped. It took a lot of blending and adding lots of different colours to get this painting to the way it is.
I totally hear what you say. I am painting a copy of one seascape but to let it feel mine I got something nice without me knowing ( my subconsciousness spoke) I got that nice shape, but after I noticed I want to preserve it there. Another thing I did with that copy I mirrored that painting and I have to say I struggled a lot because of that but it feels more close to me than if I'd just copied as it is.
About colors: You did really great job. All those colors are complex colors, not just something of the tube. The blues are a bit toned down, greens are bit bluish, etc, etc. This takes a lot of attention and patience to mix those colors. Well done!
I can see the fish, but where is tee dinosaur?
Sunnylady, I can completely relate to what you are saying. I like to leave paintings just the way they are at a certain point just because I thought that I had a nice colour there and didn’t want to block it out or an interesting and unique look to a certain area of the painting that made me feel like it was already complete in my own preference.
Thank you so much for your support about my colours! I really did add a lot of different colours to the original one I chose to give it a muted or brighter or even a bolder look to give the painting a special touch of my own and to show resemblance to the original too. I had to memorize the ratios of colours I added to make sure I had an almost exact replica of the colour I was using.
Thanks again for all the tips and support.
I can see the dinosaur hidden beside the rocks at the bottom. But I can also see something on the mountains too. I can also see the fish in the water and by the rocks. It really depends on how you look at things to determine what you see hiding here.
Now I got it, thanks! :D
I see a turtle 🐢 and a mouse 🐁 lol... Great job.
💚mom
Thanks mom. I can see those now too! It’s amazing what you can find in paintings! 😊

Wow Elsie, great job! Two days well spent!
The gradient in your water is nothing short of fantastic, especially for a fast drying medium like acrylics.
