First of all, I would like to thank Nancy Zimmerman not to get tired of commenting on my paintings, for the continued support and our friendship. π
Today I found some time and spontaneously picked up the brushes to paint my version of "Crimson Wave". Discovered by chance on YouTube and I liked the idea of painting with a limited palette (Crimson, White, Black,Violet) on an almost dry surface, without liquids. Only the Crimson serves as a primer. I let the whole thing run wild, needed some strong nerves and here you can see the result ( much softer and more Pastell as the Original )and I hope you like it. Fresh from 30 minutes ago. Canvasboard, Black Gesso, 24 x30 cm( 9.45x11.80 Inch) Time 3 Hours, the second picture underneath is after 2 days drying
Thank you coldethelπ

Awwww! Thank you so much for that my friend! βΊοΈ You also relentlessly comment on all my paintings and it is much appreciated! It means so much!
This painting is GORGEOUS!! Those diffΓ©rant shades of crimson and violet created by the white & black are so pretty. π₯° That energy in that superb crashing wave is amazing. The reflection of the moonlight in the ocean is really well executed! You surpassed yourself on this one Dirk! Well done!! ππΌ
Hey my friend, thank you for your great comment ..I'm trying to get better at the seascapes. This was difficult to paint on the dry ground,. I already noticed towards the end that the colour became drier and the time was short.,so I'm very happy about it and cleared my head .I'm glad you like itπππΌ
Nice job Dirk. The highlighting of the water is especially nice.
Hey Tony, thank you so much . It was really difficult on dry ground. Was the first timeπππΌ
@Dirk - Dirk, luminosity of reds can be affected by few reasons:
1. Videos do not show true color, settings on the camera and your monitor alter the perception.
2. Your eyes and brain and live experiences work in the way that they prefer reds thus enhancing the perception. Every person sees colors differently. And it is normal as it is combination of unique features of that person.
3. Surrounding colors - if it is next to greens, both reds and greens visually enhance each other and look brighter.
4. Having black canvas obscures the colors, especially transparent ones. ( see square /half colored square in paint tubes)
5. Brand of paints and pigment you use. The Most covering and bright red is cadmium red light. There are many versions of other pigments that supposed to look same bright but I have not tried them. Alizarin is not pure red, it is close to wine color, so only in transparent applications it can show its beauty. But this is different technique.
Thank you Sunny. Great information. My experience in this question is not so great yet, the more I appreciate sharing your wealth of experience with me. That honours me very much.πππΌ
No problems Dirk, not much experience though but I am always glad to share what I learnt along the way.
