‘Soaring Wedge-tailed Eagle’ is the largest bird of prey found throughout Australia and into southern New Guinea; with a wingspan up to 2.8 m (~9’) and length of up to 1m (~3’). When viewed from above or below, the tail is a distinct wedge shape. These majestic eagles used to join us in thermals when we were gliding in Charleville many years ago - it was awesome. They are related to the other predominantly dark-coloured booted eagles found world-wide. Whilst being a generalist predator, it mainly predates on mammals, but also occasional on birds and reptiles. This Wedge-tail is painted in oils on a 16x12” (~40x30cm) canvas. Sincere thanks to my friends at ‘Outback Dusty Trails’ for their permission to paint this great photo they took recently in western Queensland (Australia). Enjoy
