I subscribed to MJS Tv tutorials and this is a tutorial in his ‘Beginner Series’. Whilst in the tute the underpainting was in oil, I did that layer in acrylic (as I needed the practice at handling acrylics) and then completed the remainder in oils. I’m using mostly the Bob Ross paints as that is what I have, but supplemented with some additional W&N artist level. - non-alkyld normal W&N oils. This painting was 8 hours of video tutorial supped by the Source photo, blocking diagram and paint list. Although it is a bit taxing, I am enjoying Michael’s tutes and the outcomes and learnings I am achieving. Only 1 major area of stuff-up - so can’t complain.
excellent job
Thanks guys, your supportive comments are very much appreciated. Cheers
Super realistic tree! Great details and I enjoy to look at variety of leaves and transitions of shape.
Really beautiful...looks like a photo!
Very nice job Dave!
@ Sunnylady, thank you for taking the time to identify the elements of the painting that make it stand out and appeal to you.; as you do in a lot of your comments. They are aspects that Michael talks about and demonstrates in his tutoring process.
Thank you Sandy and Matt for your appreciative comments. Much appreciated. Cheers
Dave, I think we are painting to become better in what we do and get satisfaction at getting better paintings with acquiring new knowledge.
Form/Shape/color/light/shadows understanding and training ourselves to do it better makes us better artists and allows us better enjoy the process.
Sunnylady, you have made a great comment there. Understanding more about the subject of our paintings, not only at the detail level, but also at the bigger picture level helps us place and form it better within the other aspects of the painting, as well as get the supporting details more realistic.

MJS is probably the best realist on youtube, his style is way past my pay grade but you have done a great job here Dave....Congratulations!
