This is an oil over acrylic under-painting on A3 canvas, inspired by and painted from a sunset over a river photo on the Pickabay copyright free site (that I converted into a sunrise); as well as the gesso underpainting technique in BR’s ‘Wilderness Day’ (S31E13). The acrylic under-sky section was painted in blended canary yellow and copper acrylic, then the remainder (except for the water) under-painting was done with various shades of grey and black gesso and then the river was painted with blue to blue-violet acrylic base colour to enable the yellow-orange (complementary colour) highlights to be more easily painted over the top. The latter took a bit of experimenting to get the combination to work. After the acrylic dried, I used Liquid Clear and then overpainted with normal BR oil paint and techniques. I learned quite a bit from this painting, and have embarked on further research into improving how I can paint ripples in water with reflections.
Many thanks for your compliment Sunnylady. Apologies for being MIA - other stuff happens. Shimmer came from Liq Clear & Liquin use, and it disappeared from beyond the go because I had to de-orange that area, so lost the Liq Clear. The water foreground pattern effect came from using brush strokes trying to simulate ripples; so any resemblance to famous artists is purely accidental. Colour contrasts came from trying to use the colour theory and wheel. Cheers D.

Folks, can somebody remember the artist and painting from famous artists which brushwork and color scheme was so close to what Dave did in the river?
Dave you got fantastic shimmer in the water. Great color contrast!
