Original Creation

Noyon Cathedral Dawn

DBerkey 14 May 2024

A friend was in Noyon, France and showed me a picture of himself in front of this cathedral. I thought why not try painting it. This is very early morning (my idea). I used two different photos to get this. One is a night shot, the other day. 18x24 in both acrylic and oil. The sky and trees are oil while the rest is mostly acrylic. I sketched the cathedral and then masked it so I could paint the background all in one motion. I am trying to transition from oil to acrylic but am finding it very challenging, especially blending. These two mediums couldn't be any more different at least to me. Still very much learning to paint light and shadows. It's true that tone does all the work but color gets all the credit.
