The Grande Couloir under Milky Way

This painting was inspired by photos I took in Velocity Basin outside Silverton, CO this July. I have always wanted to ski that couloir (that huge “U-shaped” run) right of center and got to realize the dream. We camped at the base, where this perspective is and the stars were incredible at night.
On a technical level, this is my first black canvas so there was learning happening and I wasn’t sure what I was doing. Somehow I must not have painted over the liquid clear in the upper right- it looks shiny. Not sure what happened. After it dried, I added the foreground layer. I don’t love the form of the Milky Way, but in fairness I didn’t have a plan when I started the painting.
