This is based on a Paul Ranson tutorial. He didn’t name it so I just picked a name. Kind of rode the struggle bus pretty hard on this one. For some reason, I have extreme difficulty using the 1 inch or 2 inch brush to make nice smooth grassy areas or in this case, I wanted a forest floor covered in leaves. They just don’t seem to come out right. Also, this tutorial is very different than Bob’s method, even though Paul is a certified Bob Ross instructor. That made it a little difficult as well. The colors in this photo are a little off. They look more autumn in real life. Oils on 20 x 16 stretched canvas.
Very nice work, I like the glow in the background with the greenish yellow hue. Never heard of Paul Ranson yet. Need to check him.
Great use of colour and tone to show light.
Wonderful with great colors too!
You may not have gotten the intended smooth grass, but I sure like it the way it is now!
Love it Brian! Your grassy areas look very natural the way you made it. I’d be very happy about it! Beautiful perspective and layering! Very well done! 🙌🏼
Love the colors in this one. Very eye pleasing.
Thank you all so much for your encouraging comments. You guys always look for good things to say about paintings. It’s very uplifting and affirming, so thank you. As for the forest floor, what I really wanted was a carpet of fallen leaves. I put some leaves on the path by just dabbing a tiny dot of various colors using the point of my pallet knife. But short of spending the incredible amount of time it would take to dab 10 million individual fallen leaves, one dot at a time, with my pallet knife, I’m just wondering if there’s a way to get that look of fallen leaves on the forest floor using a brush.

wow. this turned out excellent.
Your post made e look up Paul Ranson. Looks like he has some excellent tutorial videos. Almost like it's the next step after mastering Bob Ross style. Thanks for this information!
No problem. That's what we're here for, to help each other out.
