This is one of my favourite places - Mawgan Porth in Cornwall. This is the first time I’ve had a go at painting it. I used a photo of a sunset that I took. Really struggled with the reflection and edges of the water but nevertheless I really enjoyed doing it. Doing the sky was my favourite part. I darkened the red / crimson with some van dyke brown instead of blue so as to avoid the dreaded green sky. I have included a thumbnail of the photo and welcome any suggestions for improvement.
Your sky is fabulous, it looks like a photo.
very nice sea scape!well done.
Thanks everyone!
Gorgeous painting! Your water's edge reflections look great. To get that extra pop of "glow" in your sky you can take a bit of Indian yellow + white add to the center area of your sun. Right now I feel like there is more glow on the water than in your sky. Everything else if perfect!
That’s very helpful - thanks flippergirlpaints!
It’s hard to differentiate between the photo and your painting. The sky is fantastic.
