Sunflower

Barbara 29 Jun 2021

This is painted in water mixable oils following a tutorial. I enjoyed it a lot but kept forgetting to watch where my hands were and kept staining the blue sky with yellow from the petals and had to try to fix it at the end. Hence, the sky is a little patchy and I may do redo it when it is completely dry.

Hi Barbara, beautiful painting, i also use WMO but whilst the paint washes out fairly easily i am having difficulty removing the linseed oil despite it also being water mixable...do you have any tips as using spirits just defeats the purpose of WMOs

The sky wasn't a problem - it was a happy little accident that worked out very well!

Thanks Tel and Colin.
Tel, I haven't had too much trouble with that. I just use water and a bit of soap if necessary and really work it in to the brushes and then rinse well and lie them flat . A few times, when my big brushes have felt like they are still tacky, I have soaked them overnight in baby oil (which I read about online) and then rinsed thoroughly. That softened them up well but that is oil again, so may not help you.

Bought some "sunlight" household soap yesterday....works a treat! ,Thanks Barbara
