This was painted with an acrylic underpainting and water-soluble oils for all the detailed work. It was done following a Michael J Smith tutorial. The lesson is free on his website for those who are interested. It was quite fun to do and enjoyed learning his technique. I was not aiming for the same degree of realism as his work. The reference photo is a bit asymmetrical but I am wondering if I should make the painting more symmetrical. Thoughts?
Many have tried and many have come close.... Beautiful work Barbara
Very nice. Also, living things are not symmetrical. Leave it as is.
This is just WOW Barbara! Leave it unsymmetrical. It looks more real, natural this way! Gorgeous work!
Definitely a Wow! Looks gorgeous and better not symmetrical, more natural!
Wow! Magnificent!
Beautiful tree and I love the oranges and yellows that you used!
This looks like a photo. Excellent
Thanks for your feedback everyone. Very much appreciated.
great job.. I have done that tutorial.. I enjoyed it as well .. I think non symmetrical is better as natural things don't age symmetrically due ti disease, orientation etc so for me yours looks much more natural .. great job
Amazing work Barbara!
Thanks so much, Tom and David. Much appreciated.
