I live in Alberta Canada and we have been having wildfires every summer for years now. A while ago I found a photo of a very beautiful lake near Jasper. A town that has been in the news lately due to the fires.
The photo has a lot of smoke, and it is very different from what that Lake looks like without the smoke.
So, the painting I wanted to do this weekend was that same Photo of Spirit Island that I've been looking at for months now.
Let me know what you think of this one.
8x10 Canvas
This reminds me of flathead lake in northern Montana
Lovely atmosphere in this, good work
Beautiful painting; I love this part of the world and your work makes me feel like I am right there! 😌
excellent representation
This looks great Aaron! Well done!
Awesome work!!
someday, I humbly request you write an article about your process, step by step. I was inspired to try something similar with a photo I found, and struggled quite a bit with the water. Your method seems quite effective! Consider me a fan!
Wow. Thank you everyone for your kind comments. I sincerely appreciate it. It means a lot to me to hear all of your comments.
@JeffTh Haha, Thank you. I actually took photos of this one step by step. Along with another one of my Paintings I did about 5 weeks ago. I posted them to my small IG page. @Aaron.Richmond.Art
Or are you asking for a more detailed breakdown of how I apply each step? That in itself is a bit of a hybrid of both Bob Ross/Bill Alexander, and my own that I've came up with over the past year and a bit.
The last 2 of the posts show the step by step photos.
Beautiful work!
Beautiful. The painting has such depth and tranquility even though the haze may tell a different story. I love the changing angles of your reflections and water marks.
Hey Aaron, that's cool I'll have to check out your IG for those steps! It may be enough to answer some of my questions.
The TIB website give us the ability to write/publish an article which I bet would help many present and future aspiring artists here. I think the way you've hybridized Ross/Alexander and added your own flair may be unique, and worth recording for posterity. In this case, I'm thinking specifically of how to tackle photos as you have done.
I understand that what I'm suggesting is not a small thing, it can be quite difficult to explain one's process, and to compose it into an article. But I hope you'll consider it some day! Cheers!
