For my 8th Painting I saw this photo of an Austrian Lake (again), and I thought it was beautiful. So I had to try and do it justice.
I enjoyed doing this one, even thought it was quite challenging. Normally, I dont include man-made objects in my paintings, but the Dock felt appropriate.
Completed about 2 weeks ago.
10x20 Canvas.

Very nice

Well done. <3
Awesome depth Aaron.
what a beauty
Thank you all so much for commenting. This might be my favorite Painting I've done yet. But, Im still quite new to Oil Painting and I have A LOT to learn.
Thank you all so much :)
Great working from photos isn't it, do you feel like you are really putting yourself into it? I know I do. I have a couple of Austrian scenes in mind based on some antique paintings. I think its really important to get the distant mountain right and you've done a great job. Manmade additions bother me too.
I thought it was a photo at first. So you did an excellent job! Beautiful Aaron!
Thank you guys. @TheLandscapePainter, I love using Photos as reference for my Paintings. It allows me to focus on technique and accuracy, rather than my own ability to compose a shot. It takes a bit of the thinking out of it. If that makes sense.
With the distant Mountains, I find its your Sky that sets the tone for the rest of the painting. If you sky is too dark, it forces you to be darker in the most distant Mountains. Which in turn forces the darker values of every other Plane you use in the Painting.
So for me, the Sky (and its gradient) is almost the most important thing to get right. Then everything else Follows.
I dont mind throwing in a dock, or a fence, or maybe a small cabin off in the distance. But my artwork will likely never have a man made structure as its focal point. I'd say this Dock in this Photo is the closest thing I'll do to making an object like that the main aspect of a composition.
Thanks again for the comments everyone :)
Your painting looks so beautiful, well done, cheers
