Felix Just to be certain Felix, we are submitting a painting, no drawings or similar, right?!

@Voy Kay#376 everything you would normally upload here is an acceptable submission. So upload a drawing if you like 😊

Felix Thanks I was thinking about drawing too. I found pastels I bought in 2008. So may be I need to investigate them.

Felix Thank you very much for opening the Events. It is a great opportunity to try myself outside of normal style and normal topics. The drawing I posted is second ever Halloween theme creation. I am so happy about "Events" and so grateful to you for them!

Great idea! To be perfectly honest, I've always wanted to make a Halloween themed painting. With this pandemic going this year, it's the first time I won't be throwing my annual giant Halloween party. I used to decorate every year and might do so again this year albeit just for myself. Painting something Halloween-themed sounds like a great idea to get one in the Halloween spirit. Although I technically have a few paintings that may fit the bit already, I'd like to try and create something new. Thanks for creating this event!

Thanks for starting the event Felix! I’m excited to see everyone’s work and we already have some great submissions!

I started mine but realized it’s not very spooky - Oh well it will still be fun 🙂

side note: you mentioned that folks who nominated will get a special badge. Is it like the titles that some people have? And if so how will that work for the people who already have titles? With their names be really long like Daenerys Targaryen Queen of Meereen Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea Mother of Dragons The Unburnt Breaker of Chains Television: Queen of the Andals and the First Men Protector of the Seven Kingdoms Lady of Dragonstone? I’m just curious because I think that would be hilarious.

Oooh I hope I can find time for this one; this is my busiest month at work and I’ve got 2 weekends scheduled off this month so I have to work every single day between them 😩

I’m thinking happy little trees dressed up as ghosts.

Lilikins I haven't yet decided how exactly I'll do it. I'm thinking either a special type of challenge badge or some new kind of "award". (A challenge badge for participating in an event is coming too of course 😊)

Queen of the Andals and the First Men

Why does everyone always forget the Rhoynar? 😕

Felix if you decide to do any type of award, I’m happy to contribute to a gifting pool if you’d like to begin one; it might not be feasible but if you’d like to collect and gift from amazon or an international shipper, I’m more than happy to assist in any way!

        Felix
I’ll be honest I forgot them. In my defense it’s been about 8 years since I’ve read the books. I plan to reread them if he ever gets around to releasing his next book.

Lilikins word on the internet has it that GRRM is writing as much as he hasn't Don ein years due to being locked in because of Covid.
Some even say that the book is almost finished and he is already in the editing process.

But as we know, words are wind. I just hope the next books will give us a real ending to the story, not like the absolute train wreck that was the show...

I've decided to participate in this. I've been thinking up what to paint and am starting to flesh it out today. I took a look at the entries so far and was really impressed by all of the great, original Halloween paintings so far. Halloween is my favorite holiday and has always had a special place in my heart so this will be really fun. I'm going to try and let loose and not take this too seriously.

I finished this painting yesterday but I'm having a bit of trouble photographing it. It's still wet so it needs to dry a little but I can't get the lighting right. Any tips?

Is it possible to upload a few different pictures of various angles?

lightsnow Yes, just upload a picture the normal way first. Then you'll find a button "add pictures" on the painting's page. There you can add more pics. Just be aware that the deadline for uploads ends this Sunday

Felix Great, thanks! I think I'll let it dry a bit another day and try and grab shots from different locations in my house.

lightsnow You need diffused lighting to get a good image of a reflective surface like our oil paints. I would normally say to use a softbox but most here probably dont know what that is 🙂. So the next best thing is indirect lighting or light of the day through a lightweight curtain. The idea is you do not want "hot spots" and you do not want directional lighting which will highlight the texture of the painting and put too many "sparkles" on it. The "curtain" can be vitually anything from a shower curtain to a worn out sheet. Another way to do this is to wait till you have light bouncing off something like a driveway or doorway. Put the painting into the bounced light. That light comes off the reflecting surface at all kinds of crazy angles so you dont get the heavy texture look. Other tricks are putting a kleenex over the flash on the camera or thin white paper. Shoot the flash into a white paper cup.. anything to diffuse the light 🙂

I should add much of this works just fine for a smartphone as well as a DSLR or mirrorless. Light is light.. its all about controlling it and make it do what you want it to do 🙂
