Hello Artists!
This is my first time here and I would like to paint the "Forest River" Season 27 Ep. 12: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrbGlR22K0Q&t=148s

However, I am unsure on how to apply the various gessos in the background? Should I paint it all completely black gesso in the background, and then followed that paint the trees on top of the black gesso with white/gray gesso? I know he used a liner brush for the twigs---what brush did he use to make the leaves in the background? Your help would be greatly appreciated!

Keiko Hello Keiko, are you unable to see the video? if so I have the same problem. It looks like its been done on a black gesso covered canvas. Create a light spot using white gesso. Paint the background trees with grey and white gesso including the leaves. You can use a disposable sponge applicator or an old brush to do the leaves as they need to washed with water (don't wash your best oil painting brushes with water, it will ruin them). Allow it to dry completely before adding anything oil based, I usually leave it overnight but sometimes a few hours will do. I can't see the video in my area so if I haven't got it right I'm sure someone else will be along soon to give you advice. Welcome, by the way.
