re: hanging oils outside? I know some of you have done beautiful work on boards and saws, etc. I'd like to do a 36" BOB round painting and hang it on our front gate. Can oils be hung outside at all, and if so how long to dry and should they be sealed at that point.
Would appreciate any advice, or input, or just NO! thanks so much, AJ
Oils weather outside?
I would say go with exterior oil paint from Home Depot or similar shop. They can create you all the colors you will need.
Don’t waste your artistic supplies, it will not survive long.
another option is to use exterior acrylic paint that is premixed to your colors. But that requires practice first as they dry way too fast.
Thanks Sunnylady, information saved for a future project!

AJ Aj, I have an oil painting (regular oils used for Bob Ross paintings) hanging on my front door for almost 2 and a half years now. Today, the colors are partially worn and are beocming less and less colourless. I have to tell that the painting is 90% covered from rain and faces East.
In all, I would indeed not recommend normail oil paint for this but either exterior stuff (don't go for budget stuff) or else try acrylic (needs primer and finishing!) as Sunnylady describes.
Good luck with your endeavour!
