I’ve had a few people ask about canvas prints and I have considered offering those for sale. I’m looking for advice along the lines of “making canvas art prints for dummies” and offering them of all sizes for various artwork. I’ve looked online here and there and was wondering if anyone had any advice for turning your artwork into canvas prints of multiple sizes for sale or gift.

my second question concerns frames. What is your experience with ordering floating frames for your canvases and are they worth it?

Thanks much

There are good print on demand services that could do it if you can get very good pictures of your paintings. Pretty expensive though, I think that's the only reason maybe not to want to use one unless you are keen to learn/diy for it's own sake?

Do a search on "Giclee printers near me". That should give you both the cost of owning your own printer $$$$$, and, any printers in your area who can do the job for you $$. I think canvas prints are worth offering from a buyers perspective. I own several giclee prints because I simply cannot afford the originals/hand painted. I never order them pre-framed. I'd rather choose the frame myself to be sure it suits my decor and personal tastes. Hope my 2 cents helps.

My two cents: I personally got introduced to prints when I was in the cruise. Since I was not much familiar with it I had perception this is just a marketing thing for galleries to earn more money. I could not afford art pieces from the gallery artists, but it felt it was a fraud those prints.

nevertheless later I got Van Gogh giclee. I was so upset about it. I was expecting some texture… none was seen. Colors were so nice to the original. Price was around 80 USD in 2019. Size is 20*24” probably.

maybe you want to ask those people what is their expectations from prints? Compare to the price you wanna charge for your painting and maybe you better offer real art to them if they want to spend something close to your price tag?

no offense to anyone - I think I better have no prints after my sad experience.

Sunnylady, no one should take offense. Everyone has different tastes and desires for their artwork. The details belong only to the buyer and seller. But here, everyone's opinion counts and helps the asker of the question make their decision.

Good stuff, I appreciate all the comments. I did order a two canvas prints off a photo I took online. Easy canvas prints I think. They look nice but I think if I was going to try and sell one I would add some texture paint to them to individualize it a bit. Don’t know what the demand is. Cost was about us 38.00. I’m not set up to sell right now so it was more research. Thanks everyone.

Glad you found your solution. I agree that adding some texture is nice. I have a couple where the artist did that and am very happy with them.

According to my experience so me tips are,

Choose a high-quality image: When selecting an image to print on canvas, make sure it is high-resolution and has enough detail to look good when enlarged.

Select the right canvas: There are many types of canvas available, so choose one that fits your needs. Some factors to consider include the weight of the canvas, the texture, and the finish.

Use a professional printing service: To ensure the best quality, consider using a professional printing service that specializes in canvas prints. They will have the equipment and expertise to produce high-quality prints.

Determine the size: Canvas prints come in a variety of sizes, so determine the sizes you want to offer for sale or as gifts. Consider offering a range of sizes to appeal to a wider audience.
