As Bob said many times, the way he did it against the easel leg isn't advised or practical because of the splatter mess. What systems have you all set up in your painting space. I've invented all kinds of things in my mind, but why reinvent the wheel when you may have brilliant solutions to painting in the house. Thanks, AJ

I have a trash can that I purchased from Amazon, lined with a trash bag, with the beater rack in the bottom. Completely contains the mess.

I use a plastic container/box with Bob's beater rack in it. I start beating it slowly (to get most of the paint thinner off) and then gradually speed up till the brush is about dry. Then I give it a gentle whipe with some tissue paper to make sure it's dry.
When the paint and paint thinner starts building up at the bottom of the container, I simply poor it out and use tissue to clean it a little at the bottom. Normally it can last for some 150-200 paintings before it needs cleaning.

this is seperate from the container of thinner you wash the brushes in? I know Bob had a 2 bucket system but I was wondering if there was any reason not to combine the two? Thank you

AJ Yes, you more or less gently whipe the brush into the thinner to get rid of the paint. Somekind of a metal grid in there will help a lot. Then you knock of some of the thinner on the brush, preferably into the paint thinner can/container. And then you go to your beater rack and dry the brush.

I don't beat it anymore.. I clean the brush in the container, drain best I can and then use shop paper towels to dry it. The beating is too much of a mess and puts way too much "stuff" into the air.
